Welcome to the Commission Inquiries page of CaveGeekArt.com! If you’ve got an idea for a custom project or want to see your biggest fandom made real, you’ve come to the right place.
Before you contact me, I want to make sure to facilitate optimum communication and a smooth process as we move forward.
Please take the time to read the About page, especially the information about my process, and then read the following to learn more about the commission varieties I offer.
As the name implies, these pieces are made entirely by hand on traditionally tanned buckskin using pyrography to sculpt a three-dimensional relief image with actual depth and texture. Any painting is rendered with natural, non-toxic pigments using primitive bone tools.
These pieces can take dozens or even hundreds of hours of work. With handmade buckskin commissions, you get a physical leather map you can hold in your hand. By its very nature, your commission is one-of-a-kind. No other will be exactly like it, even if I one day create another item with the same design. Each is entirely unique.
My digital maps are created from digitally processed images of handmade works of art made in the same way as fully handmade maps. Each digital asset begins as a hand-crafted leather item, sculpted with pyrography and then painted. Each is then photographed, digitally processed in Photoshop, and made into a stand-alone map asset.
I then use these assets to build custom digital maps, or for compiling the drag-and-drop “map packs” you can purchase. While each map is different and unique in its own way, the individual digital assets are not.
Digital commissions come with the option of a physical paper print as well, for an additional cost.
If you’re interested in a commission, please fill out the form on the Contact page and include as much detail as possible about what you’re looking for. I look forward to working with you to bring your vision to life!
Absolutely! If you enjoy my work and my style, chances are I can create what you’re looking for. However, keep in mind that some adjustments may need to be made to fit within the limitations of my medium.
The cost of a custom piece varies based on several factors. For more information on pricing, please continue reading this page and fill out the form below. As a reference, handmade commissions start at $600 for simpler pieces and can go into the thousands for larger, more detailed pieces. Digital commissions start at $200 for simpler projects.
Cave Geek Art is a one-person operation. As the artist, craftsman, designer, shipping department, and customer service agent, I am responsible for every aspect of the commission process. The cost of a custom piece includes not only the materials and physical labor, but also my two decades of experience, my unique skill set, and the specialized tools and supplies I’ve invested in.
If you’re still interested in commissioning a custom piece, please read on!
Please note that the estimate I provide for your custom piece is just that – an estimate. The final cost will depend on factors such as time and materials required. The exception is items sold in the Store.
The creation of a unique work of art is a labor-intensive process that involves research, finding reference images, material procurement, planning, designing, burning, sculpting, painting, and more. Each step takes time, and materials such as buckskin, pigments, pyrography tools, glue, display cases, lights, and disposables like sandpaper, mixing sticks, gloves, and knife blades are required.
All commission requests are processed on a first-come, first-served basis. Although I take commissions regularly and plan my schedule well in advance, there are times when my schedule is already full, and I may not be able to meet your deadline.
The more detailed and specific your idea is, the easier it is for me to bring it to life. Don’t assume I’m familiar with every fandom, so please provide pictures and references to help me understand your vision.
When communicating your idea, be clear and to the point. Tell me exactly what you want and any specific requirements you may have.
Don’t worry about the technical details. Just tell me what you want, and I’ll figure out the best materials and methods to make it happen. If there are any issues or changes that need to be made, I’ll keep you informed throughout the process.
Your budget refers to the maximum amount of money you are willing to spend on your commissioned piece, including any additional items such as hangers, displays, or display cases.
Please note that your budget should be based on the actual amount of cash you have available, not on an estimate or assumption of how much the piece should cost. It is a personal decision that solely depends on your financial resources and priorities.
Even if you have an unlimited budget, it’s important to remember that everyone has a limit they won’t exceed. Therefore, determining your budget beforehand will help us establish the scope of your project and ensure that we can create a piece that meets your expectations and stays within your financial means.
This refers to the specific date you need the project to be completed and delivered to you. It is important for me to know the deadline so I can assess whether I can fit your commission into my schedule and plan accordingly.
Please avoid asking how long it will take to complete your project as it is not just a matter of turnaround time. Each project has a unique set of requirements and deadlines. As the saying goes, you can have something done fast, cheap, or well, but not all three.
If you require a rushed delivery, additional charges will apply due to the necessary changes in my schedule, extra hours, and possibly delaying other clients’ projects.
NOTE: Keep in mind that, due to the nature of my business, I can’t always respond immediately.
I’ll try to handle to your request as quickly as possible, but please allow up to two weeks to hear back from me.
